In Praise of
Ancestor Artists

The discovery of Chauvet Cave in 1994 in southern France by three spelunkers created an international sensation. Its floor were littered with the remains of auroch, giraffes, bear, wolf and horse. The walls depicted fantastic art – herds of mammoths, lions, rhinos, owls, bison and handprints of artists who lived 37,000 years ago.
